Guitar. Lifts. Encounters.

In the midst of all that is on my mind, Christopher’s (Steph’s brother) laptop case still managed to get done.

Christopher’s Guitar Laptop Case

The yellow polka dot back ground shaped like a guitar pick gives it a little funky vintage look while the silver threads, held into place by golden coloured beads, give it the extra pop-up feel. To make it more personalized, the letter ‘L’ on the top is the first letter of his last name and the ‘p’ in his name is sewn like the musical note (which I hope I got right).

I just hope it is satisfactory to Steph and Chris. I think that’s what most us hope for in our gifts to others.

Speaking of which, Steph is granted the gift of life; and I’m positive the baby growing inside her is going to be one lucky little fellow! Check out the awesome video they made of baby Sim! What a way to celebrate the joy of life; by creating one.

The other day BBC ran an article about the psycology of lift behavior in people. It basically said that we are not used to being in such close proximity with strangers, let alone being boxed up with them for those few moments. Just 2 days after I read that,Β  nice lady spoke to me in the lift about this key chain I got on my bag. While my dad is a very friendly and approachable man, I myself usually hang my head down and be as still as I can, hoping not to attract any attention. Most of the time anything I say will either embarrass me or the people around me. But I’m all up for a pleasant conversation, if it eases the tension in the lift.

So to that nice lady, whoever you are, thank you for making this meek little girl’s afternoon a little more pleasant.

And here’s a many more friendly encounters. Friendly, not deadly, spooky, sneaky, sinister or with any undesirable agendas. Friendly. πŸ™‚

A Jolt From The Jellyfish

It’s been a while since I last updated you blog readers and you can blame that on my very bad time management skills.

Nap time

Nap time

I’ve been caught up with this bundle of furball-joy ever since he entered our lives. He’s had a string of problems that caused us 2 trips to the vet and a whole lot of worries enough to make this worry wort go paranoid.

The good thing is the little buddy is still jumping and running around when he’s not all tired out, chasing his chew toys and nibbling on our legs.

And almost like a jolt back to reality, BBC Earth Wonders ‘Picture of The Day’ yesterday reminded me of one of the few things that bring calm to my life.

It’s time I stopped procrastinating. It’s been hiding under mom’s table, conveniently forgotten. The rain brings about an inviting temperature to the air and the this momentary break has helped me stem my decision a little over 50% to move forward on a path I’ve been contemplating on. It’s time to pick up that needle again.

If only to stop myself from going on another useless path-finding journey.

Test Tube Dreams

My dreams have been bringing me to different universes, opening my heart to different worlds and degrees of imagination. But I am not gifted in the art of drawing, so I cannot paint a beautiful picture to capture what I see. And I’m afraid the words will never be able to bring out the full essence of the dream.

I guess that’s what dreams are then, a memory unique to the one who dreamt it.

The weekend started with a Touch charity dinner on Friday night. Mom and Dad were unable to make it and so Laogong had to call up his friends to help fill up the seats. Being there made me ask myself when was the last time I made a donation. Dad has always been involved in charities and mom has always been the one helping others when they are in need – sometimes to a fault.

Our table of 9 won 6 prizes that night. I was never one to be lucky when it comes to lucky draws. I always win nothing. And when I do at those sure-win lucky draws, I always win the smallest prize. So when my name was called 3 times that night, I felt slightly embarrassed. It was not our intention, but we are certainly grateful.

I recall saying that I would post up pictures of the skirt I made of myself. While one is still in the laundry, this one is ready.

I wanted the colours to complement each other. So I chose a similar shade of green to make those buttons as those of the leaves on the skirt. As for the button loops, I crocheted cream-coloured yarn. I like how the yarn and the lace soften the overall look of the skirt. Tempted to make more, but awaiting nicer cloth designs.

Occasionally, I like to head down to the store to see what is on sale. It’s nice to let the cloth choose you instead of having you choose the cloth, if that even makes sense. πŸ™‚

Jelly Bean Test tubes

Jelly Bean Test tubes

During my parents’ last visit to my sister’s, theyΒ  came back with these creative test tube jelly beans, among other things. I can’t wait to finish them and use them for beads or buttons. My sewing space in the office is getting a little messy and is in dire need of ‘inspirational organization’. That’s just my one in a hundred ways of procrastinating.

Romancing The Night

Chinese Lantern on my Travel Journal

Friday at the office gave me enough time to do the finishing touches for the journal. I’m glad with the way it turned out. But thinking about work makes me think of what awaits me on Monday and I am not looking forward to it.

Not to spoil the weekend, here are some pictures of my Friday night with Mom.

Counter Dinner

Counter Dinner

Mom baked some really sumptuous chicken with salad and mushroom soup. And since I am not sophisticated enough for wine, that is the five-fruit Korean tea I got from my trip you are seeing in the picture.

Although, I do enjoy indulging myself in some romance.

Candle In The Night

Candle In The Night

We sat outside, mom and I, with a beautifully lit candle and watched the lights of the park across the street. While mom counted planes, I tried to clear my mind and let the darkness warm me and bring me a little peace.

Even nili came and sat with us for a while.

Night Stroll On The Balcony

Night Stroll On The Balcony

What with his leg and age, his limbs can only glide against the slippery tiles in an effort to move about. Usually he just sits at one spot and moves only when necessary. It is nice to see him ‘swimming’ about on the floor of the balcony, alert and interested, exploring this unfamiliar territory and then finding a spot to rest.

It’s almost midnight and I’m hungry. If I go on like this, it will be me mom and dad find tomorrow morning sleeping on the food bowl and not Nili.

The Long And Winding Road

Nili gave us a scare last night when we found a sore on his leg, the one with the lump. I thought of the worst and couldn’t get a good night’s sleep. The doctor said it was because the lump was getting too big and heavy for Nili so between that and the floor, all we can do is clean it twice a day and apply some cream.
It’s just another realization that his condition will only get worse everyday. But it’s so hard to prepare myself when he’s still so jolly and greedy and alert.

Looking at his picture just makes me want to scoop him up and smother him with cuddles and kisses. And I want to do that as much as I can until I can’t anymore.

Yesterday was Labour day here. You’d think that I’d be up whole day sewing, but I managed to sew my tiny project finish the day before that. I was thinking of all things vintage that I like, and one of them was luggage and suitcases.

Luggae Locket

Luggae Locket

I am a little disappointed with this one. Sometimes something goes wrong between the transition from paper to cloth and what you expect is different from what you get. No one saw that it was a luggage until this:

On The Road Again

On The Road Again

Although, it does seem more like a glass-half-full day piece of work. There are always new ideas and lessons you can learn from the things that you do, especially the ones that don’t seem to be as what you expected at first; it only means the road is still long and pregnant with ideas and possibilities. You just need to think out of the shell. πŸ˜‰

Back to the drawing board before I lose my inspiration to the thought of losing Nili.

On a side note, I guess all those Paul McCartney songs mom played when I was young has really rubbed off on me.

Birthday Is A Reason For Indulging In Good Food

I think I finally have the perfect coin pouch for my dad.

Happy Birthday Daddy

On the flip side of the Embroidered camera charm is our photo that I wrote about in the last post. πŸ™‚ Sometimes it’s hard to say “I love you”, sometimes it’s easier to show.

We had a very nice bouquet of flowers and a birthday cake sent over from some of dad’s friends. Mom decided to make hot drinks and we all had tea – the first celebration in the new home.

I must say that the cake was perfect for my dad – not too much sugar to overwhelm but just enough to have a bit of taste.

We went to two different Chinese cuisine eateries – one a Cantonese rrestaurant, the other a Szechuan. Dad preferred the Cantonese restaurant. My favourite dish of that night was the scallop.

Scallop *slurp!

Scallop *slurp!

The interesting thing about it is that the scallop was sliced into half horizontally and stuffed with some other seafood. I can’t make out what other ingredients were inside apart from the prawn. But this dish was bite size and fun to eat!

Mom and I preferred the Szechuan restaurant because of the Spicy and Sour soup. Dad loved the fish. But because it is Szechuan delicacy,Β  most of the dishes are spicy. Not for dad. Although, the decor, we all agreed, was fabulous.

Each 4-seater table had a Chinese lantern hung above and red divider between them. And to add to the privacy we already had, there were thin golden sheers for each ‘cubicle’. We were seated next to the window, where we got a beautiful view of Singapore’s night skyline – the CBD, Marina Bay Sands and the Esplanade theater.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself this weekend. So did my tummy. We didn’t forget Nili. I wanted to offer him some chocolate from the cake, but we both know that wouldn’t be too good for him at all. So instead, he enjoyed himself a little scrub, belly rub and some cuddling.

And of course some celery (he’s back to eating that; I guess his cravings come and go :)) and carrots with a bit of dried apples, papaya and his favourite biscuits. Not forgetting his morning leaves that my dad gives him.
