Laogong’s convocation was yesterday. I had wanted to put up some photos, but daddy decided to hijack all the photos by securing them in his dry cabinet while he is away.
The only other option left for me is to steal some photos from other people’s facebook. However, since there is a tiny matter of a certain someone’s triple chin, whose identity shall remain anonymous (you only get 1 guess), I am going to wait for daddy to return.
Plenty of ideas in my mind of what to use them for but don’t know which one to use first. Here’s another notebook store that I fancy, but mom couldn’t find any of their books there where she was shopping.
Before I jump the gun and start my new long-term project with my notebooks, here’s what I’ve been up to lately. It has taken me too long to decide what colours I want my jellyfishes to be. I’ll be sure to share it with you again when I’m done.
My Orange-y Jellyfish
This is the colour of the jellyfish I see when I close my eyes and dream. What colours are yours?
The morning greeted me with a glitch on my computer but I hope it has been settled. I am never good with technologies and most of the time I go about it blindly. Needless to say I am hopeless when it comes to anything electronic. I’d sooner use a hammer on it than attempt to find out what’s wrong.
Nevertheless, I am grateful for it. It has brought me closer to you all out there and has helped me share my work and thoughts.
I needed to get myself off the self-pity wagon and what better to help me with it than a sewing project. Stephanie had recently grown a liking for Spongebob (who doesn’t like that boxy fella) and wanted a laptop cover with him on it.
What makes Spongebob so adorable is the amount of emotions he shows with his big round eyes. I wanted to give it more texture and dimension. So I decided against sewing just a simple white circle on. Instead, I did a diagonal laid filling. The rest sort of fell into place after that.
You Know It!
His nose, I noticed, is cuter when it pops out. So I did a woven picot for it. And with those cheeks in, you know he is smiling even without seeing his mouth. 🙂
When the whole thing is done, I shall share it with you. In the meantime, it’s back to the needles and threads again and counting down the hours till I go home to Nili for his next clean – one of my favourite time of the day.
Thank you, to those of you out there reading. It keeps me writing, which certainly helps right now. 🙂
This was something I have been wanting to make for a while. And since it goes with next season’s theme – which I have yet to reveal – I thought I’d kill 2 birds with 1 stone by making the first one as a present.
Old Chinese Book - Embroidered Faces
It has 20 pages of blank black paper for photos and a thin rice paper in between each sheet so the photographs will not stick to each other. Also, in between each page is an open folder.
Making that reminded me of the folder/book I meant to make for myself to properly store notes of previous work.
Each page is actually an envelope for me to store all the drafts and pictures and notes on each item I have made since starting up Out Of The Shell. These envelopes are glued and sewn together into a book. So I’ll get one book for each season.
Recently I have been having trouble sleeping and concentrating on anything, even sewing. So I spend my time watching movies and TV shows. In the past few days I have watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Hulk (Edward Norton’s), Water For Elephants, The Green Hornet, New York I Love You and the whole of American Horror Story.
When I’m not watching my shows, I’m in the living room with Nili.
With His KaiLan Leaves
Perhaps I am worrying too much about things that I’ve been putting off. We’d all like to think that our problems are larger than they are to give us an excuse for the state we’re in.
I think I just have not had my favourite bubble tea for far too long. Sometimes a girl just needs her drink.
The past few days, I have been cracking my brains over the lion king notebook.
Lion King Notebook
I finally managed to finish it last night over Contagion. Does anyone else felt like living in a bubble after watching that? I know I can’t be the only one.
I finally bought myself a Polaroid camera here and I’m extremely eager to use it! Oh, the ideas flowing into my brain is what keeps me going. At least one of the things that do. Never shall I forget how grateful I am to have the chance to just sew all day.
Maybe I’ll take a picture of myself sewing. I can’t wait!
I can never differentiate Simba from his father. Thank goodness I have Laogong to help me on that. I guess Lion King is more of a boy’s cartoon. Here’s the 3rd of my up coming season’s items.
Embroidered Lion King
I thought I can take a break from sewing after this item, seeing that it is a notebook. I took to baking cupcakes this morning hoping it will make up for my not getting Laogong anything for Valentine’s day. But I got overly eager and started to make my muslin for the new dress I’m learning to make.
The rain helped with the mood of my sewing and cutting and tracing and drawing. But when the Vet called in the evening and I was all alone at home with Nili, the rain couldn’t haven been more melancholic.
Perhaps some might find it dramatic that I am sad over Nili getting cancer. But Nili has been with me since I was a teenager and he has accompanied me through the lonely nights. When I started crying that evening, he started stomping his feet, as though he was angry at my being upset.
The funny thing is, I started laughing after that, and I don’t know why.
Maybe it was because I was too shocked over Nili’s reaction. Nevertheless, it made me realise that he is still healthy and happy now, despite the cancer cells in him.
And that’s what’s important – that he’s still with me.
